My Story

I've created this page because I want to make a difference.Sikh Sanjog is the only Sikh Family Support Charity organisation in Scotland developed to meet the needs of Sikh women from the Bhatra Sikh Community (a minority within a minority) We are engaged in working in a specialised way with a specific culture that brings with it necessary demands e.g. single sex groups, activities that encourage and promote a positive sense of black and, more specifically, Sikh identity.” The project is still changing. Addressing the needs of, second, third and fourth generation of, Bhatra Sikh women, girls and other ethnic minority women from around the world. We continue to breakdown many barriers and create a safe place for women to work together and enjoy each other’s culture and learn about values that are similar for all women irrespective of race, colour and creed. Since the inception of the project it has become evident that the existing funding and resources are not meeting the needs recreationally, educationally or socially.I know we have a very long road ahead of us. Iam sure that if we continue to show the same commitment that has been shown in the past we can only go forward and raising funds will help us on our journey to deliver our Health and Wellbeing groups, Youth Groups Drop in Advice Service and a safe haven for all to come together so please donate and help to keep a very valued and much loved Organisation going.

We are taking part in this years Kiltwalk to raise money for SIkh Sanjog.

Sikh Sanjog was established in Edinburgh in 1989 and is the only Sikh Family Support Charity organisation in Scotland. The organisation was developed to meet the needs of Sikh women, children and families from the Bhatra Sikh Community (a minority within a minority). We are committed to working in a specialised way with a specific culture that brings with it necessary demands e.g. single sex groups, activities that encourage and promote a positive sense of black and, more specifically, Sikh identity.

The project is ever changing and adapting in to continue to address the needs of, second, third and fourth generation of, Bhatra Sikh women, girls and other ethnic minority women from around the world. We continue to breakdown many barriers and create a safe place for women to work together and enjoy each other’s culture and learn about values that are similar for all women irrespective of race, colour and creed.

Since the inception of the project it has become evident that the existing funding and resources are not meeting the needs recreationally, educationally or socially and we want to get together as a staff team and do what we can.

We have a very long road ahead of us, however we are sure that if we continue to show the same commitment demonstrated previously we can only go forward. Fundraising and events will help us on our journey to deliver our Health and Wellbeing groups, Youth Groups, Drop in Advice Services and a safe haven for all to come together.

Please donate and help to keep a very valued and much loved organisation in the community.
