My Story

I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of The Kiltwalk and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Edinburgh Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk 2018. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about The Kiltwalk, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

As most of you will know we lost our good friend Jim back in March this year. We were stunned by the money raised to pay for his funeral and it was amazing to be able to give the My Name5 Doddie Foundation £6000 on his behalf. Since then we have wanted to do something in his name and, inspired by our partners/friends amazing efforts on the Moonwalk, we have finally decided that the ideal event is the Edinburgh Kiltwalk. So, me, John and Brian will be trudging the 24 mile route round Edinburgh on September 16th and have decided to raise money on behalf of a fantastic Edinburgh charity that works with school children in Kenya.

Kipawa Trust International provide feeding programmes and other health and counselling services for school children living in poverty in Kenya. They currently focus on helping the children of Mukuyu School and Oaklands School, both in the Ruiru area of Kenya, North of Nairobi.

They have been involved in Mukuyu School since 2010 and provide lunch and breakfast for over 700 children increasing attendance at school and improving performance. Kipawa also sponsor a number of children from Mukuyu school to go on to secondary school as well as providing a number of different health and counselling services, family empowerment programmes and supporting one-off infrastructure projects. If you’d like to read more about Kipawa please have a look at their website, www.kipawa.org.uk.

It costs 10p a day for every lunch Kipawa serve, or around £20 a year for each child, therefore every penny you donate can make a huge difference to the kids. Also, because the Kiltwalk is organised by The Hunter Foundation your donation will be boosted by an extra 40%.

We’re very proud to be doing the Kiltwalk in Jims name and know he would be very proud to see money raised on his behalf. Please be generous :-)
